Winespector is a premium wine e-commerce platform. After two years of operation, the site struggled to capture organic traffic despite a rich product catalog and regular editorial content.

- Under 3,000 visits/month from Google
- 60% of product pages not indexed
- Load time > 4s
- Inconsistent URL structure
Challenge
The client aimed for meaningful organic presence before the 2024 Christmas campaign. Window: 90 days. Tight budget. No option to rebuild the site entirely.
Doubling organic traffic in 3 months was the initial goal. We went past it.
Approach
A 3-phase SEO strategy:
1. Deep technical audit
- Full crawl with Screaming Frog
- 12-month Search Console analysis
- Per-template Core Web Vitals profiling
- Architecture and internal linking mapping
Audit output: 47 friction points identified, 12 critical (duplicate content, orphan pages, missing canonicals).
2. Targeted technical refactor
Rather than rebuilding, we worked with the dev team on critical points only:
- Normalized URL structure (
/wines/<region>/<slug>) - Systematic canonical tags
- Segmented sitemap by type
- JSON-LD Product + Review on product pages
- Compressed images + lazy loading
3. Content strategy
Identified 23 semantic clusters with high potential. Prioritized under-exploited transactional-intent queries.
